My Favorite Dennis Hopper Role...

Today Dennis Hopper died at the age of 74. Known for playing a bad boy or a rebel I will remember Mr. Hopper for a much different role. On my list of favorite movies is a movie called Hoosiers. Gene Hackman starred in this wonderful story of the little team that could. The most amazing performance in the movie is given by Dennis Hopper as a down on his luck drunk who happens to be the father of one of the players on the team. As we watch him long for the good old days of high school and the exulted status most sports stars receive, you either love him or hate him but you cannot deny he is a true master of acting skills. In fact he was nominated for an Oscar for this role. As far as his off-screen antics and rumored bizarre attitude, this is the role that I will remember him for. May he rest in peace!

Don't Forget!!!!!!

So You Think You Can Dance starts tonight at 8! I am embarrassingly excited about this show starting back home. Welcome to summer television.

Idol Musings...

I really do not have that many musings about American Idol this season (thought it looked better in the title). I just wanted to make a comment about the results last night. I could have gone either way. I liked both Crystal and Lee and hope that both will have wonderful careers. I fully expected Crystal to win; and truth be told she probably should have. But Lee was good and he seemed to get more and more comfortable as the season went on. Although the season was lackluster and honestly I watched very little of the finale last night, some talent should come from this year. I will not watch the show again, I did learn my lesson about trying to revisit a show that I had given up. So long Idol. Lee and Crystal (and maybe Casey too) I will be looking for you.

Friday Night Lights News...

After the last episode of Friday Night Lights, I was once again going to tell you all what a wonderful show it was and how everyone should be watching this gem when I read on EW.com that come September you will be able to watch every season. ABC Family has picked up Friday Night Lights reruns and starting in September you can watch the show from the beginning. I am very excited by the news and I am going to hound my 7 readers to at least watch the first few episodes and if you are still not hooked (and in love with Kyle Chandler) than I will stop harping on what a wonderful show this is (OK I won't really but I can say that on my own blog).

As for the episode from Friday night, once again a stellar job. The friction between Vince and Luke is a great storyline and watching Tim Riggins coaching is funny and sad all at one time. And if no one believes that Eric and Tami Taylor are like a real couple, come to my house and view a money fight. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are the most realistic couple on television and watching them together is like a peek into a real house. Plus who else loves Landry as the new punter.

All and all, good news for Friday Night Lights fans.

Interesting People Everywhere

I got back from New York on Sunday and although I had a good trip it was good to get home. My sister's surgery went well and she is on the road to recovery. Oh and on my way to the airport on Sunday I drove through Queens (sort of) and thought of David Dust and his packing. David, just so you know, my sister lives in Port Washington on Long Island which actually seems fairly close to Queens (but I have no idea). Anyway, I had something interesting happen on my flight on Friday.

I sat next to a pregnant woman and when the snacks came she rubbed her belly and said that she was hungry. I asked when she was due and she became very quiet and then told me her story (she was a talker). This woman, who had three children of her own, is carrying twins for her brother and his husband (they were married in Connecticut). She is supposed to give birth to a boy and a girl for the couple but had an amnio on Thursday and something is wrong with the girl baby. So her brother's husband who is extremely over-protective (who would not be?) flew her to New York on Friday to see a "real" doctor (because we have none of those in Florida). I will never know what happens but my heart went out to this woman and those babies (and the completely unselfish thing she is doing for her family). I hope that all is well and both babies are happy and healthy and have a wonderful life.

So I am back and in the throes of the last full week of school. Parties and end of the year gifts galore. I hope that everyone had a great weekend.

Heading North

I am actually heading to New York today. I almost emailed my friend David Dust but this trip is more about family than anything. My older sister, who lives in NY, was diagnosed with breast cancer in October. She has been very lucky and was able to come away from the cancer with a single mastectomy and a clean bill of health (so far). Today she will begin her reconstructive process and I am heading up to Yankeeville to help with her two younguns (ages 2 and 4). Say a little prayer that everything goes as planned and I will be back Sunday or Monday. And for my friends who live in "the city", next time I head north of the Mason Dixon line it will be all about being social. Have a great weekend everyone!

Bones was a little depressing...

With the onslaught of season finales happening I was excited about Bones and how this year (maybe the show's best yet) would end. Especially after the weird and uncomfortable vibes that we all felt last week when Bones herself started to question her commitment to solving murders. The mystery tonight (something about a hoarder and a lost love) was secondary to the drama unfolding as all of our favorite "squints" (and Booth too) decided to take a year off and pursue other interests. Bones to Indonesia, Booth to Afghanistan, and Hodgins and Angela to Paris. I can only assume that when we get back in the Fall it will be a year later and we can get back to the business of catching the bad guys. The goodbye in the airport was just a tad depressing. A hand hold; no hugging, no kissing and no promises. So now what? See you next year...

ABC Comedies...

I have been reading a few of the blogs about the ABC Wednesday night comedies; namely Modern Family and Cougartown. Many people were disappointed with the season finale of Modern Family (most liked the finale of Cougartown). Did anyone else watch the shows last night?

I thought Modern Family was at its basic best (basic being a good word here). Yes Hawaii was hilarious but last night the show was back in town and back to basics. Three families and their interconnected stories making me laugh. Who has ever been part of a family trying to get the "perfect" family photo and having that one person (Clair) dictate the entire thing? How about the bird in the house? I have actually had this happen and I reacted much worse than Mitchell did. And then of course Phil and Gloria at the basketball game with Phil sneaking in the snacks. I laughed throughout the entire episode and in no way was I bothered by the simplicity of the show. Great great season!

As for Cougartown; this is another show that rarely disappoints. I think that Courtney Cox has found the perfect character to show off her talent and I love the quirkiness of this entire cast. I told my husband last night that I want to start playing "penny can" just because the " cul-de-sac crew" does. And who did not love the techno remix of "part of being a couple"? Great night of television all the way around. Now next season I am hoping Bobby (my favorite) and Barb get something going. That would just be fantastic.

So did anyone else like the shows last night or were you (like many) disappointed?

Another Reason to Love Glee...

Did anyone else see this picture today? Did you know he had this under the button down shirts and sweater vests? Nice!

Glee is the Sh#t!

I must meet Neil Patrick Harris! He is now on my list of the things to do (not do just meet) before I die. After last weeks lackluster episode of Glee I had high hopes for tonight's episode with special guest NPH and he (and the show too) lived up to my expectations. The "Dream On" duet with NPH and Matthew Morrison was probably one of my favorite moments of the season. Absolutely amazing and hilarious at the same time.

The minute I think the show might run out of ideas and then the "dream" episode is upon us. Plus all of our "dreams" have come to fruition. Idina Menzel is in fact Rachel's mother (I mean how could she not be; look at her). My goodness her voice is spectacular. And we were all right, Jesse was never in to Rachel, he was just doing an acting exercise to help his vocal coach.

Great episode once again to a show that never fails to put a smile on my face. Oh and Neil Patrick Harris is awesome if you have any doubts about my obsession (is it OK for me to be obsessed with a gay man when I am a straight woman?).

Rough Night on GG

Season Finale last night on Gossip Girl certainly has the blogosphere yapping this morning. I am not sure who had the rougher night;

Dan who discovered that he still had feelings for Serena as she blows him off to go to Paris. Vanessa will not speak to him and Georgina shows up pregnant announcing he is the father. Oh and there was the little incident with Chuck (Dan punching him in the lip) that came up as well.

But then there was Jenny who is hated by all for trying to break up Lily and Rufus. Nate will never like her as more than a friend and to top it off she is being sent back to suburbia because she cannot hack it in the big city. To add insult to injury she sleeps with Chuck Bass (her fist time) because she is lonely and he blows her off the minute Blair walks in the apartment. Reality does sometimes slap you in the face Little J.

But wait, what about Chuck Bass? He declares his love for Blair and asks her to meet him at the top of the Empire State building. She doesn't show so he settles for Jenny Humphrey. Dan punches him out when he finds out just as Chuck is getting ready to propose to Blair. Chuck leaves town and gets shot in Prague.

My goodness it was a drama filled episode. Rufus and Lily are back together, Dorota had her baby and Serena and Blair have headed off to Paris. Did I miss anything? I have to say that after a lackluster year this was a finale the way finales are meant to be done. What did you think?

The Week That Was...

I know, I know I have not posted all week. This week was my last week of preschool for the year (yeah) and I had a lot of loose ends to tie up at work. Then on top of that, I got sick (fever, sore throat etc). Then, on top of that, I had my daughter's birthday party today (her birthday was a few weeks ago but party was today). I have been trying to read the blogs but my mind has not been able to write anything. With that said, I have a few comments about some of the shows this week.

The Amazing Race - I was extremely disappointed that Jet and Cord (the cowboys) did not win. They deserved it and I loved the way they ran the race. I did not hate on Caite as much as most so I was a little taken aback by Carol (or Brandy forget which one) attacking her at the finish line.

Glee - Always love the show but this weeks episode was not as great as some have been. I loved (and will continue to love) the story of Kurt and his Dad but I do feel like we keep reliving the same thing (upset gay son, dad understands, dad and gay son hug).

Modern Family - Most of the time the funniest show on television and when Mitchell says to Cam (about Lily in jungle prints) "she might get confused and think she is back in Vietnam" I thought I was going to lose my shit.

Friday Night Lights - Hands down the best show ever. I adore Landry and his facial expressions and the breakdown of Luke (Dillon Panther boy) was so honest and heartfelt I got a little teared up. And when Tami basically said screw you to JD McCoy I wanted to shout out "I will survive sucker". Watch this show...just watch it. Oh and interesting fact - The guy who plays Luke (formerly he was on Lipstick Jungle) graduated from the North Carolina School of the Arts which is where my sister graduated from. Just thought this was reportable.

I think that this is everything. I will try to be better this week. The last few weeks of school just seem to be going way too fast. Let me know how everyone is doing please....

Its Back and Better Than Ever!

I actually stayed home last night. On a Friday night I was on my couch patiently (OK not really) waiting for the return of the best television show ever. Now before we get into any sort of argument over what is the best I will admit; I love my Glee, I love my Modern Family etc etc but nothing compares to Friday Night Lights. Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton are without a doubt the best actors on television right now. Now I know that plenty of people have watched this entire season on DirectTV but my husband would not get DirectTV for me and when my reasoning included "I want to see Friday Night Lights when it really airs" my fight went out the window. So anyway, I am poised to watch the show, on a Friday night and this is what I thought...AWESOME!

  • Landry is the saving grace on this show sometimes. He always does what he is supposed to do. No one wanted to go to East Dillon but Landry got his letter and never questioned his redistricting.
  • At some point in his life Matt Saracen needs to get a break. Not only does he have the degrading job of delivering "Panther pizza" but his art school hopes seem far away and it seems as if his grandmother is getting worse.
  • When did JD McCoy (the young quarterback from last year) become such a tool? His father is getting in his head and I wanted so badly for Matt to kick his ass.
  • No one ever expected Tim Riggins to last at college and we were right. His return home was not exactly the warm homecoming he expected. Looking forward to seeing what he makes of his time in Dillon.
  • I am looking forward to getting to know the "new" kids. Vince looks interesting and I can already tell that he might break my heart.
  • As for the Taylors; I loved it when Tami did the coin toss. In her own way she let the Panthers football team know that she was not going to let anyone tell her what to do. Julie wants to go to East Dillon (where is Gracie by the way?) which both of her parents disagree with. And Coach Taylor, well lets just say he has his work cut out for him. Some of Kyle Chandler's best work was in the episode last night.
Best moment of the show was when Coach Taylor had to come out at halftime and call the game. Heartbreaking? Certainly! But realistic and a true testament as to how far this team must go. Wonderful, wonderful show! So glad it is back.

Glee is so my show....

Embarrassing fact (about me) #123 - One of the first concerts that I ever went to (and enjoyed) was a MC Hammer concert. Guess who the opening act was? Yep you guessed it; Vanilla Ice! Glee just gets me.

Is Anyone Faithful Anymore?

People.com has reported that David Boreanaz is the latest in a long string of men that has been caught cheating on his wife. Apparently David really went with a winner because she was getting ready to try to extort money from him so that she would not go public. Very classy lady by the way David. If any of you are wondering why I care this much about this one; well here it is. David Boreanaz has played a hero now for many years. He was Angel (the soul filled vampire) on Buffy and then later his own show Angel. Now he is a straight-shooting FBI agent on Bones who we all want to get the girl. The man has been on two (no three) of my favorite shows. I know I must separate reality and fiction but how can I root for a man who I no longer respect? I am getting mighty tired of hearing about the less than stellar moral values of people. Where oh where have all the good ones gone?

How old can I feel?

I had a bit of a crazy weekend. Thought that I would share a little....

Friday night my husband and I had tickets to see REO Speedwagon at Sunfest which is here in South Florida. I was so excited about seeing a band that helped so many of us get through breakups back in the day (hello Time For Me To Fly people). To add to my excitement we ended up (by way of a friend) in the front row and then had backstage passes to meet the band. Here is a picture of me (looking a little scary) with the lead singer of REO Speedwagon. I was feeling old until I saw these guys.

Needless to say I had to recover for most of the day on Saturday (I just cannot do it like I used too) and then had to bake a cake and celebrate my youngest and her 6th birthday. Again with the feeling old..

As you all can read, there is never a dull moment at my house. Happy Monday everyone!
