New addition...

My youngest turns 8 today...8!  I am feeling a little old and less useful as the years go by.  Anyway, this is what we got her for the birthday.

She has been wanting a kitten for a really long time and we finally gave in.  Her name is Cammie and she is a rescue.  So far so good, just thought ya'll would appreciate.

Just goes to show you...good things do happen!

I just finished reading the story about Giuliana and Bill Rancic expecting a baby via surrogate.  This makes me happy and I don't even know the two people involved (3 or 4 now).  After a year of crap including a miscarriage and breast cancer, it is nice to know that things are looking up for this particular couple.  Congrats to them and their new addition!

Modern Family - Daddy/Daughter

Wednesday night's episode of Modern Family was not one of my favorites.  There were still some laugh out loud funny moments but overall the entire episode fell a little flat.  Except for the storyline surrounding Phil Dunphy and his middle child Alex.  Now I have a soft spot for father/daughter relationships.  Being one of 3 girls (with the 4th my parents finally got their boy) my sisters and I all had good (and great depending on the day or month) relationships with my Dad.  And I adore watching my 7 year old daughter develop a special bond with my husband now.  But back to Modern Family...

So Phil realizes that he does not have any "special" moments with Alex like he does with Haley and Luke.  I believe that it is true that parents have a tendency to gravitate to the children that they have the most in common with.  And Alex always seems to regard her Dad as something of an idiot.  Anyway, Phil decides to make some memories with Alex that eventually lead them to a diner with a pregnant waitress.  The entire story about the astronaut who carved his daughter's initials on the moon and how he ruined Daddy/Daughter relationships for everyone was just great.  Phil wanted to make something special happen (as he tried to get the waitress to go into labor) because he wanted Alex to realize how much he loved her too.

Modern Family does not usually get me teared up but when Phil Dunphy carved Alex's initials in the diner sign at the end of the 30 minutes it was a moment for sure.  So for this week's episode, if nothing else, we once again realize how great of a dad Phil Dunphy is and how much he loves his children.  Plus it kind of made me miss my own dad.  I would say that was a good 30 minutes of television.

Dick Clark will be remembered....

In Junior High and High School, before I became the phenom that I am today, I babysat a lot.  Not much social life but plenty of cash.  One night that I was always available to sit was New Years Eve.  For some reason I always watched Dick Clark and for some other reason he always made me feel better about the sad state of my life (junior high and early high school sucked).  I loved the gentleness of his voice, the way he was always excited about every musical act and the way it never felt like a New Year until he had proclaimed that it was so.  Plus he always had some great line about the hope for a better year.  He was an an icon and a legend.  May he rest in peace, surrounded by all the great ones who are performing for him as we speak...

Wednesday Funny!

I know, I know I am ragging on men this week but it is what it is people...

Man Tries Out to be a NFL Cheerleader

Bless his heart!  I might have taken him more seriously if he really was a good dancer but alas according to the video ...he was not!  This makes one wonder.  Many gay men with rhythm, many hot football players, why does this not happen more?  Pondering....

Disappointment!

Here is to a better day today than yesterday!

FB and the Posts that make me cringe

I am on Facebook.  I don't deny that I like to post funny things that my children do.  I also like to check in places when I am out and about.  I enjoy posting pictures for my family to see.  One thing that I will not do is air my dirty laundry on Facebook for everyone to see.  And one of my biggest pet peeves is when someone posts a cryptic message just to get a comment or make someone ask stupid questions.  Any of you on Facebook know exactly what I am talking about.  This is one of the recent posts on my feed and why I felt the need to bitch about them...

Starting to wonder if some people just live for posting hate on FB?   I'm just not that angry and hate-filled. Why do some people want to post nothing but hate?

Of course this friend's feed is now full of comments like, who hates you?, what happened are you OK?, etc...I just think we should use the Facebook power for good and not stupid that's all.  Stepping down from my soapbox yet again

Finally...I guess

I am not quite sure what the big deal is.  I feel as if they are already married and I assume that they do as well but the breaking news is that Angelina and Brad are finally engaged.  If I were her I would get him to clean up a bit before the nuptials.   He is looking a little greasy lately.

Thank goodness that he got better with age...

Real People....Yeah Right

I love it when they post pictures of celebrities with no makeup so that us "normal" people feel like we are just as pretty.  So here is one of Elizabeth Bennet, I mean Keira Knightley, looking so normal without makeup.  Yeah right, she is gorgeous.  Dammit I never look this good..

Wednesday Funny and so true....

Manny actually said something similar to this on Modern Family.  The quote was "Jay, you know I have hit my target weight, I am just not quite at my target height".  Yep this is how I feel lately.

Finally watched....

We had company this past weekend and we have more coming for Easter (this is the season for it in South Florida) so I finally got to sit down last night and watch Once Upon a Time.  And I have a few questions...
  • Was Barbara Hershey just awesome as the evil Queen's even more evil mother?  I thought she was scary good and want to see her more and more.
  • Are you telling me that the only reason Regina is evil is because she lost her 1 true love?
  • and to tie into that, Regina hates Snow because when Snow was a child she told a secret (OK I know that this secret ultimately led to Daniel's death but still Snow was manipulated by a master)?  Shouldn't Regina just hate her mother?
  • How did what's her face come back from the dead?  Did they reinsert her heart?
  • How cool was it that Midas was the D.A.?
I know I say this all the time but I love (LOVE) this show!  Last night the husband was watching with me and I kept having to pause it to answer his questions (annoying) but he got really into it which was funny.  Catch up with everyone later....

Quotables....

I am not as grossed out by this as many are.  Your kid, your saliva etc etc ....she probably doesn't need to talk about it though....
