A month away and look at what has changed...

I took some time off.  Lots going on at the the old homestead and I needed a break.  I might still but I am missing my people and missing reading and catching up.  Who knew though that taking a break for a month would allow for so many things to change.  Both real life and beyond....

*  Teams on Project Runway ----- Really?  Not sure how I feel about this.
*  Brothers playing brothers in the Superbowl.  Kind of exciting.
*  Gays in the Boy Scouts....hmmm, good thing if it happens.  Jury still out on that decision. 
*  Robin and Barney engaged on HIMYM ----- Yay!  Its about time!
*  Gossip Girl was Dan?  Who really cares?
*  Kristen got sent home on Top Chef?  Seriously?  Gail Simmons I used to love and respect you.
*  Don't Trust the "B" in Apartment 23 cancelled.  Mad about this one.  Was loving JVDB (James Van der Beek).
*  Award Shows abound.  Love this time of year but have seen none of the movies.  

Lots of unknowns in my life right now and I am trying to work through everything.  I will be sporadic for awhile but know that I am thinking about you all and really miss you.  I hope that 2013 is going well for everyone.  High fives, kisses and hugs people.

HIMYM - Splitsville...Finally?

I have been remiss in mentioning my favorite show lately (ya'll know its How I Met Your Mother).  Frankly the episodes have been forgettable and not as laugh out loud funny as in the past (remember The Naked Man, Whoo Girls, 3 Day rule etc...).  But last night, while it was not laugh out loud funny, this episode moved us closer to the goal of the show (no not finding the mother, the reconciliation of Barney and Robin).  And Nick, played by Michael Trucco, really was cute with his hot, dumb character. 

I have read the comments, perused the blogs and know that many people are sick of the show and think it has run its course.  I, on the other hand, am still invested in these characters and want to see them happy.  Plus there are still those episodes that are so creative and funny (plus NPH people) that I cannot turn away. 

I laughed last night (no not guffawed but I did laugh) and I was moved by the final scene with Barney and Robin.  We are getting there people just don't give up just yet. 

We saw the Mother, just not her face...

The season premiere of How I Met Your Mother was last night and as per use, it was a flashback within a flashback.  The beginning was at Robin and Barney's wedding (please tell me it happens) and then Ted flashes back to how he (and everyone else) got to this point. 

The episode itself was cute but not as mind blowing as I had hoped.  Always love the sweet side of Barney and Robin and got a few moments of that last night.  We met Robin's new boyfriend and witnessed Quinn's reaction to finding out about Barney and Robin's relationship.  If you have not seen it, the 60 second explanation that Barney gives to Quinn about he and Robin and the history of their relationship is something to behold. Neil Patrick Harris is a master!

The Ted and Victoria stuff was a little lame I must admit.  We already know that she is not the mother so I just wanted to get through the whole running away from the wedding thing.  It was ironic that Klaus was leaving too but still move on...

And then in the final moments as Ted is reminiscing on platform 9 3/4 (just kidding) we get a glimpse of a woman with a guitar and a yellow umbrella.   

My understanding is that this could be the final season of How I Met Your Mother.  I have one word for this assumption.  Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.  Even if we never meet the mother, I would love to see Robin and Barney married, Marshall and Lily trying to raise a child with the coolest middle name ever and Ted being Ted. 

Time will tell of course.  As it always does with this show.  What did you think?

How I Met Your Mother - The Barnman and Robin?

Do not read this if you have not watched tonight's season finale of How I Met Your Mother....

I am so excited!  I know that the people on this show are not real but I feel as if I know Marshall and Lily, Ted, Barney and Robin.  So I spent the evening watching my friends have a baby, get engaged to the wrong woman, run off with the wrong woman, and eventually marry the right woman (I hope). 

As previously stated, Marshall and Lily finally gave birth to their son.  It took Marshall awhile to arrive but he finally made it to greet Marvin Waitforit Erickson into this world (coolest middle name ever).

We then watched Robin give Ted a pep talk about the one that got away (Victoria) and he called her.  Victoria agreed to meet up with Ted, in her wedding gown no less and they had a little chat.  Next thing we know Ted and Victoria are running off together.  Really?????

And then there was Barney (and Quinn).  They were off to Hawaii but first Barney got stopped by security with a suspicious looking box that just so happened to have an engagement ring in it for Quinn.  No!!!!!!!

Fast forward into the future and we once again get a glimpse of Barney's wedding day but we finally get to see the bride and it is....wait for it....Robin!  Yes!  And all is right with the world.

How I Met Your Mother - Check done move on

I have been watching HIMYM lately with a little catch in my throat.  The show that I once loved has not been as funny or as clever lately and I was afraid that I was going to have to take a break.  Although, I love this show and the characters, it was taking up precious TV time and that is a hot commodity in my house.  But last night showed me, once again, why I hang on and why I continue to care about the lives of these people. 

I can see my husband and I having a box of "bets" (easily we love to gamble), I can see thinking that you love a best friend only because you feel so lonely in this world and I can see hardening your heart after it has been completely demolished even though the feelings are still there (Barney).  Last night's episode really helped to push the storyline further and kept me chuckling a lot (Barney calling God Bro, the blue french horn chained to the wall, and even Conan O'Brian in the bar).  I am glad that the idea of Ted and Robin has been completely resolved (I hope) but I do think that at some point it did have to be revisited.  The two friends just mean too much to each other. 

I am fully aware that there are a lot of naysayers out there (I am one of them sometimes) about how this show has lost its mojo.  Last night proved that it has not.  I really did enjoy the entire 30 minutes and am looking forward to next week.  I have not said that in awhile. 

HIMYM - Heartbreaking....

If you have not watched I am sorry to post this so soon.  I will not go into major detail but I do want to say, if Robin did not pick Barney after the LOOK than how will she ever choose him?  NPH is so great and the episode was wonderful....but heartbreaking.  Please say it ain't so...

Did anyone watch HIMYM last night?

I have not spoken about one of my favorite shows yet this season but last night's episode of How I Met Your Mother was too good for me to ignore.  The episode was a flashback to how the gang dealt with Hurricane Irene along with Barney and the ducky tie mixed in.  For those of you who watched a few of my favorite tidbits...for those of you who don't or didn't watch, you would not get it anyway.

Which New Shows Are You Watching....

I know that we are only halfway through the first week of new shows but I wanted to find out what people were watching and what has spiked interest among the old and the new shows so far this season.  Here is what I have watched and what I think (if you care)...

Monday Night:
How I Met Your Mother - Of course I watched both episodes and I am excited about the new season.  Robin's back in love with Barney, Barney has a thing for Nora, Marshall and Lily are finally expecting and Ted glimpses Victoria (remember the cupcake girl from Season 1 or 2).  I thought that the first two episodes were great and my husband is still walking around saying "Edward 40-hands".  Can't wait...
Two and a Half Men - I had to watch.  I have never watched before and I could not resist the hoopla.  Without knowing any of the back story I must say, it was not half bad.  I might watch again just to see how Ashton does.  It was funny and they handled the death of Charlie really well.
2 Broke Girls - Sort of cute.  I might check it out again.  2 girls working as waitresses both down on their luck.  Not sure if it will stay on the list or not.  There is something appealing about it. 
The Playboy Club - OK, I know that this has been panned by the critics and I watched thinking I would hate it.  Guess what, I didn't.  I actually really liked it.  Its a Soap Opera, no doubt but there is something fascinating about this lifestyle and time period and I really liked it.  Plus Eddie Cibrian is hot as shit.  Will watch again for sure. 

Tuesday Night:
Glee - I am really, really hoping to get back to the greatness of Season 1 this year.  The premiere was not as promising as I would have liked and there are too many other things to watch now if the Glee people don't get it together.  It was not bad.  I just got bored about halfway through and I do not like that feeling.  Of course I will continue to watch but I am hoping to get back to the beginning. 
Ringer - I watched the Pilot last week with Sarah Michelle Gellar and I liked it.  It was intriguing and confusing all at the same time.  I have not watched episode 2 yet but I think that the show will hold my attention.  I am hoping for that anyway. 
The New Girl - My favorite new show thus far.  How cute is Zooey Deschanel?  This show has the premise and promise to be great and judging by the pilot I am excited.  I know that there will be some casting changes but the show seems like something special. 

OK these are the ones I have watched.  Have I missed anything?  Oh and I did watch Up All Night last week but figured I would mention that one on Friday with my Wednesday and Friday posts.  What did you think?  Was I right about The Playboy Club or did you think it was cheesy?  God I love the new television season.  Wondering which show will be the first to get cancelled.

Hot and Crazy...

I was reading David Dust's blog and he posted a picture about being "cute" and "psycho" (see post here).  This post reminded me of How I Met Your Mother (as so many things do because I love that show) and Barney's Hot/Crazy scale.  You remember the scale...a woman can be crazy as long as she is equally hot. 

This just made me smile today.  Happy Wednesday!

How I Met Your Mother last night...

Did anyone else watch my favorite sitcom last night?  This season the show is enjoying a resurgence to the "good ole days" of the ensemble comedy but last night was completely unexpected.  I don't want to ruin it if you have not yet watched (this is one I watch in real time so very little delay for me) but I did want to discuss.  With that said spoiler alert ....

Most of the episodes this season have been very funny with the tongue-n-cheek wit that we have all come to love.  In fact "False Positive" that aired right before Christmas was excellent.  However last night was just hard to watch.  Lily and Marshall finally decided to see a fertility specialist, who turned out to be Barney's doppelganger.  This was the funny part and it was well done.  But at the end of the episode Marshall, who tells his Dad everything, finds out that he has lost his father.  I actually teared up, which never happens when I watch a sitcom (unless its the final episode).

My question is, how in the world will they make this funny going forward.  I am concerned that the next few weeks will be depressing and sad.  Any thoughts?  Still love the show just not sure where they can go with this without being overly dramatic. 

100 Epsodes of HIMYM

The 100th episode of How I Met Your Mother was on last night with a flourish. The cast sang in suits. Although the episode was fun (and I adore NPH singing) I was a little disappointed (as I have been all season) with the entire half hour. In honor of the 100th episode of a normally awesome show EW.com too the time to speak to the cast about their favorite HIMYM moments. I thought about it and decided to come up with some of my own. Here they are in no particular order.

• The Naked Man episode. When Robin has sex with a loser date only because he is naked in her living room, Barney and Ted decide to try out the new method. The episode is made in the few minutes that it takes the two to decide which "pose" will work the best. I laugh just thinking about it.

• The 3 day rule. The beginning of this episode still has me laughing when Barney explains to Ted why he should wait 3 days to call a girl. The comparison to Jesus' resurrection is priceless and if this is not enough the texting between Ted and the girl (Barney and Marshall) leads all of us to believe that Ted is really a girl.

• I do concur with the cast on the New Years Eve episode when Ted rents a limo. Barney's mix CD that continues to go up and the search for the perfect party is a great tribute to a night that is always a letdown.
  

• The episode with the humiliating stories is another gem. This is a look back to when Barney was a long haired hippie who wants to join the Peace Corps. Barney uses the story to get everyone to humiliate themselves with their own embarrassing stories. Ted's re-return to Robin's is classic.
  

I am sure that I am missing a lot. These are the ones that came to mind first. Sadly the 100th episode will not make the list but this does not mean that I don't have plenty to choose from. What are your favorites?

How I Met Your Mother (last night)

After all of my excitement (and I had a lot believe me) last night's season premiere of HIMYM was a little bit of a letdown. Please understand; the show was cute (read cute) and as always I adore my NPH but (there is a but) I do not want the sole focus of the show to become about Barney and Robin's (or Barnman and Robin hee hee) relationship. I am hoping that after getting the question of the relationship out of the way, the show will return to it's true self next week. I believe that the idea of Ted as a Professor opens the door to a lot of funny stuff (the hat and the whip last night was great) and I think that Barney and Robin "pretending" to be a couple could be very funny. I just don't want to lose Barney Stinson and what makes him so great. Only time will tell and of course I will continue to watch with bated breath. Just a mention from my husband (he is such a guy); did anyone else notice Lily's (Alyson Hannigan) bigger boobs last night. Breastfeeding is really paying off for her. OK there I said it. What did you think about last night's episode?

It's a done deal: Neil Patrick Harris hosting Emmys

For the full story check out EW.com (here). Let me just say that this is a worthy choice and as most of you know; I love this man! The Emmys are my favorite awards show and having NPH hosting is just the icing on the cake. I cannot wait until September 20th. I do wonder if he will be nominated and what happens if a host actually wins (because it is about time that he did anyway). In a perfect world NPH wins and someone (namely Connie Britton or Kyle Chandler) wins from Friday Night Lights. And I think to myself what a wonderful world!

Michael Ausiello is my Hero (sort of)

As most of you know I take what Michael Ausiello says as my bible. He does all the scoop (down and dirty info) for Entertainment Weekly and makes sure that we are all informed when something big happens (big in entertainment people). So today Mr. Ausiello has begun his annual "dream" Emmy ballot listing all of his picks for the top award in hopes that Emmy voters will listen to him (he has been pushing Friday Night Lights for two years). Let me just say that before posting his choices I again commend his picks and hope that maybe this will be the year that someone pays attention. How I Met Your Mother - Jesus Says

Just a quick shout out to HIMYM last night. The beginning sequence in which Barney explained that men should wait three days to call a woman because of Jesus was absolutely hilarious. I literally had tears rolling down my cheeks when NPH (as Barney) described Jesus's death and resurrection and somehow tied this in to the three day rule. Once again this show took it there and won! Awesome! By the way the texting back and forth between Ted and Holly (really Barney and Marshall) was also very funny but the first scene was by far the best.

How I Met Your Mother's Cool Guest Star!

Don't forget to watch tonight's episode of How I Met Your Mother! Laura Prepon is guesting as Ted's college girlfriend. I was huge fan of That 70's Show and loved Ms. Prepon accordingly so I am looking forward to her being back on television. Plus I always love flashbacks on HIMYM. I think it is Ted's hair.

How I Met Your Mother

As always the episode of HIMYM last night was hysterical. And once again Neil Patrick Harris is a genius. How much more of this can you hear from me. I adore this show. Everyone should watch this show. I know that it comes on at the same time as other beloved shows (ahem Gossip Girl) but I manage to keep up and so should you. The grand dame herself Ms. Joy (Babble On) asked me this morning (or late last night she stays up way later than me) if I had heard any more about this show being cancelled. Every year is the same. The show delivers great episodes that are new and fresh and there is never any respect. I just read an article on People.com (see story here) that Spencer and Heidi (aka Speidi) from The Hills will be guesting on the show in January. I know, I know another lame attempt to pull viewers in (Britney Spears anyone) but if this is the only way anyone will watch the show than bring them on.

How I Met Your Mother

I was finally able to watch this week's episode of How I Met Your Mother and my goodness was I in for some surprises. The return of Robin's previous teenage self "Robin Sparkles" the Canadian pop star returned this week in a fun look back of Robin's first boyfriend. A surprisingly funny, James Van Der Beek, played an aging singer (for a group called Foreskins), who visits Robin in New York. Same old story, she loved, he broke her heart, summer romance and so on. Also Simon was her love interest in her video. The funny part was not just Van Der Beek's Canadian accent (although that was hilarious), it was once again the idea of Robin as a "pop" princess.


Here is my worry; at the end of the episode Barney and Robin watch the video (Sandcastles in the Sand, seriously funny) together after Robin is once again dumped by Simon. The two (Robin and Barney) end up making out. Is this going to ruin the awesomeness that is Barney? It does seem as if the two of them have always fit together well but are we ready for a Barney and Robin romance? Or will this just be a hook up? I guess only time will tell with this one.

I love the word Revertigo! This is a new word made up by Marshall as he tries to explain what happens to people when they get around old high school friends. We (everyone does it) all have a tendency to Revert back to our high school persona (as Robin did with Simon and Lily apparently does with her friend Michelle), thus was born Revertigo. Love the explanation and love the word. Lets see where the Robin and Barney thing goes next week. Til then.
