So You Think You Can Dance (?)

I am going to make myself highly unpopular when I go on this little rant.  I love this show.  I love the talent on this show.  I am in awe at what some of these kids can do (Chehon, Eliana).  I find that it lessens the quality of the show when someone like Cyrus makes it to the Top 4.  Please understand, this kid (Cyrus) is amazing.  I think he is great at what he does (remarkable) but he has not been able to translate his dance into other styles of dance and he is lacking in the skills department for other genres.  Now people will say, what about Joshua or Twitch or even Legacy who were hip-hop boys that could hold their own in other styles.  That's just it, they could hold their own (and even amaze) in other styles.  Cyrus can not.  If not for outstanding partnering he would be lost.  The judges will say what about personality and showmanship and Cyrus has that, in spades, but this is still a dance show.  I hope to see 2 of the other 3 win this season (did not even mention Tiffany and she is a wonderful dancer as well), I just think that to maintain the integrity of the show, Cyrus does not need to take the title.  If he wins America's favorite dancer, it seems unfair to the those that have trained so hard and for so long to make it to this point.  Shouldn't the favorite be a true dancer in every sense of the word?

Stepping down off my soapbox now....

SYTYCD...and the winner is!

The night was full!  Full of dancing, full of tears, full of self congratulatory judges and full of fillers (the point of the Glee thing?).  I was glad to see Jesse Tyler Ferguson back for the finale but I could have done without Robin "her face does not move" Antin.  As always to fill the 2 hour results show, each judge gets to pick his or her favorite dances.  Most of the choices from the season I would agree with.  I had a few questions about some of the group numbers but again I know a lot of that is to make sure that everyone can get changed.

Then they started eliminating.  Tadd was the first to go...no shock there.  He did admit he was only 5'4" (which explains his heels last night in his number with Sasha).  So with a smile and a bouquet of flowers (?) Tadd went on his merry way.  Next to go was Marko.  Again no real surprise.  We all knew that it was going to come down to the girls.  I actually was a big fan of Marko and was so glad that he did so well.  He is an amazing dancer and he seemed like a genuine nice guy. Again with the flowers and Marko left the stage.

And the winner is......Melanie.  I think that I knew this would happen since the first week.  She has been amazing all season and I definitely think that she deserved it.  Big props to Sasha.  She was phenomenal and so talented.

Another season over and no more Nigel for awhile (am I glad about that).  I know many dogged this season but I enjoyed it.  My only issue was that I never found a dancer that I loved.  Oh well there is always next season.  Congrats to Melanie (and Sasha too).

SYTYCD - Who wins it????

So who is going to win?  I just finished watching the finale of So You Think You Can Dance and it really can be no one except Melanie or Sasha.  I cannot see how either of the boys could win.  I actually like (not love) all of the final 4 but it just has to be the girls.  Favorite routines of the night…Sasha and Mark’s (loved him a lot) Sonya piece, Joshua (and I loved him too) and Tadd’s Lil C routine and Marko and Lauren's routine (by Sandra someone).   Am I wrong about the girls?  Who do you think will win it?

No real surprises...SYTYCD

I don't think that anyone was surprised tonight on SYTYCD when the final 4 were announced.  Did anyone honestly think that it would not be Sasha, Tadd, Melanie and Marko?  I actually felt bad for Caitlynn and Ricky.  I think that they must have known going in that they were not going to be in the finale.  I am happy with the final 4 and think that all is well deserved.  Now the real question is...will the winner be Melanie or Sasha because I do believe that it will come down to the two girls?  Oh and did anyone find out about the Tadd and Jess smacker from last week yet?  I have done some searching and still got nuthin.

SYTYCD - I am a little relieved

I know that this is mean but I am so glad that Jess is gone on SYTYCD.  I was so fearful that he was going to be in the final 4 and the judges loved him but I was tired of his mug-like expressions.  Jordan, I am sad about, but Jess I could do without.  As for Lady Gaga as a guest judge; I did not get it.  I had trouble understanding her and when she did speak I felt like she was high and not completely with it.  On another note, at the end of the results show did Tadd and Jess kiss?  I thought that Tadd was straight, maybe I was just seeing things.  Anyone?  I deleted the episode so I cannot re-watch.

So You Think You Can Dance - Top 10 will be who?

Last night on SYTYCD the top 12 danced for the last time with their respective partners.  Today I am having a few issues with what I saw last night and what I am reading on the recaps.

OK, first of all Jesse Tyler Ferguson was the shit.  He was funny, educated and so obviously a fan of the show.  I loved his comments and his ability to laugh at himself (which always seemed to take the edge off of negative critique). Oh and Sonya sucked.  She can choreograph but don't make her talk in front of people please.

My issue with the show this season is that there are people that are going to be in the Top 10 that I just do not like.  Jess drives me crazy.  I hate his facial expressions and his cheesiness so much when he is dancing.  Now I know that he has a major fan base (apparently) but it blows my mind that he has never danced for his life.  Also, Sasha and Alexander are probably my least favorite couple up there.  She is fine I guess (I don't get the judges obsession with her) but he just does not play the manly part very well.  I am fully aware that many dancers are gay but when dancing (especially partnering) the man has to be the man and Alexander never seems to fulfill that role.  And Ryan, again another judges favorite, but I don't get it.  I was pleased when she did not make it last year and disappointed this year when she did.  She just never seems to hold my attention and I feel as if she is a little cocky (this could be the Mia Michaels thing and only in my head).  I just don't like her.

So what will happen tonight?  Who will go home and who will have a spot in the Top 10 that I do not think is deserved?   We will see.....

So You Think You Can Dance - Really?

Last week we had to accept the fact that no one was going home.  So now, not only are Jess and Clarice are still in the competition, but Wadi has been sent home.  I am getting a little frustrated with the judges.  Ricky's solo was good but I thought Wadi's was better.  Plus, Ricky and Ryan together drive me bananas for some reason.  I was disappointed with the results last night (obviously) but I will say this.  The routines have been good.  I really loved Jordan and Tadd, Robert and Miranda, Sasha and Alexander and Ashley and Chris.  Just note SYTYCD...if Jess stays and other dancers go in the next few weeks, I will stop watching.  He is annoying, fake and not very good.  Which sucks because I like Clarice.  Does anyone else have an opinion?

Meant to do this last week....

Shame on you Nigel Lythgoe!  So You Think You Can Dance is a show that I actually vote on.  And to have a night that YOU decide not to send anyone home is a complete cop-out.  Was it because you had favorites in the bottom 3 couples?  Or was it because you do not have the balls to make a hard decision?  Whatever the case, I do not want to vote anymore because it does not mean anything.  Just had to get that out before this weeks show.

So You Think You Can Dance - Top 20

When watching So You Think You Can Dance (or SYTYCD), I have a hard time getting attached during auditions because it always seems that the ones I get attached too, get cut.  So now that I have a Top 20 to choose from, I can pick a couple of favorites...

Wadi Jones - A Hip-Hop dancer from New York.  Wadi had to dance through leg cramps in Vegas and still made it.  Cute smile and looks like he is having fun all the time.

Jordan Casanova -A jazz dancer from California, Jordan has a great smile and a wonderful attitude.  She tried to be a little too sexy in her audition to get noticed but she seems to have spunk as well.

Marko Germar - Another jazz dancer from California, Marko was so talented and he has a story.  He was shot in the shoulder and the bullet is still there.

Ok, so these are my favorites thus far but the show has not started yet.  I might have new favs by next week.  Hope you are watching though, these kids (all of them) are talented.  If you can get past Mary Murphy screaming its a great show.

So You Think You Can Dance - Results

As most of you know (if you watch the show), Alex Wong (one of the best dancers ever on the show) had to bow out of the competition last night due to an injury.  This is a guy who made it on last year's So You Think You Can Dance only to be denied by the Miami Ballet to be let out of his contract.  So he tried again this year and made it (of course).  He has been good, great and spectacular!  Alex's hip-hop number with Twitch was one of my favorite moments of the season.  So I was sad to see him go and left wondering, if Alex had not had to leave who would have gone home last night?  The other two in the bottom three were Billy Bell and Ashley.  Now Ashley had a great night Wednesday night.  Her hip-hop with the smarmy Dominic was inspired and fun and she "made it through" the dreaded quickstep.  Now Billy on the other hand has just not impressed me this season.  I know, I know he is an outstanding dancer but at some point he has to WOW me and it has not happened.  Its a mute point because Alex had to go but I am left wondering who is next?

Just a couple of other things;  obviously the judges play favorites as proven by the critique of Adechike.  For some reason they (Adam, Nigel and Mia) do not like this kid and I cannot figure out why.  Mia's apology last night was warranted but I am not sure, by the look on Adechike's face, if he was in a very forgiving mood.  On the other side of the coin, Jose' is obviously a favorite.  And while I like his smile and exuberance to learn new things he is not in the same class of dancers as the rest of the finalists are.  The judges have to stop pushing him because he cannot keep up and it is time for him to go.

What did you think of last night's show.  Was anyone else sad to see Alex go?

So You Think You Can Dance - Last Night

Just a quick word about the show last night.

Billy Bell krumping may have been the single funniest moment of the show last night.  I like Billy and I think that he is an excellent dancer but he is not going to win any awards for being "buck" any time soon.  Bless his heart...

I enjoyed watching Lauren come in to her own last night.  Her lyrical hip-hop number was well danced and I thought that she really showed the judges that she can dance without being too cheerleadery.   Once again I loved Kent and his smile.  He was having fun with his jazz number and he and Courtney seemed to work well together.  I was also impressed with Jose' last night.  His Bollywood number was not great but he gave it his all.

So who goes home?  I voted but will it help my favorites?

SYTYCD Update

Just an update...I was surprised that Alexie went home on SYTYCD.  I thought with her bubbly personality and wonderful technique she would have plenty of people voting for her.  Shoot, I was shocked at the bottom three all around.  Never allow me to make your picks in Vegas, that is for sure.  Still getting used to this new format and I was actually surprised that the judges made the final decision.  Has it always been this way?

So Who Goes Home?

The show has begun.  As most of you know; So You Think You Can Dance is one of my favorite reality shows.  I enjoy and admire true talent and dance is one talent that is so far out of my realm that I admire those that are good at it.

Before I discuss who I think should go home I wanted to vent a few of my little frustrations with the new format of the show.  One of the things that I love (loved) about SYTYCD was the couples chemistry we were able to witness in the previous Top 20 format.  Now with the new "all-star" format we will never get to see two untested dancers create their own chemistry.  Each of the Top 11 will move from "all-star" to "all-star" every week.  And so many of the "all-stars" are scene stealer's.  It is difficult to tear my gaze away from Mark or Ade (and some say Pasha) to watch the contestant.  Also, who decided the "all-stars"?  Now don't get me wrong some of the choices are great (Ade, Mark, Twitch) but I am not a Comfort fan (and she was never a good partner) nor was I ever a huge Courtney fan (and neither were the judges by the tone of surprise that each had when she made the top 4 in her season).  I guess this is another "wait and see" moment as I try to enjoy the season with the changes.  Still getting used to the judges table as well.

As for last night, the dancers that I am assuming will be on the chopping block are probably (based on judges response) Lauren, Melinda and Ashley.  I will throw Jose in there as well but he seems to already have a following and NapTab numbers are normally very popular with the voters.  Of course, nothing will compare to the standing ovation that Alex received or the pure joy of Kent (he is just so excited to be on the stage).  I will be interested to see who goes home.  Any thoughts?

Can't Bitch if You Don't Vote

Last night I watched the season finale of So You Think You Can Dance. I have watched all season just have not recapped due to time constraints. So here is my opinion (whether you want it or not). I am pissed that Ashleigh and Ryan are in the final 6 (and don't get me started about the fact that it is not the final 4). Legacy should have been in the finale as should have Mollee (surprisingly). As I was complaining about this fact my husband (the sage that he is) interrupted and asked how many times I voted this season. "Well none" I said, "but still" and he announced "you can't bitch if you don't vote". As much as I hate to admit it, he is correct. So after watching the performances last night; I voted (more than once). And I voted for....yep you guessed it..Russell. The smile, the style and the dance won me over. Honestly I would not be devastated if Kathryn won but I really want Russell to come out of this victorious. As for favorite dances this season, very few jump out and grab me. Noelle and Russell's painting number was good, Jakob and Mollee's waltz was beautiful. Any others that were great? Anyway, go Russell. Looking forward to tonight.

Last Night on TV...

First up, So You Think You Can Dance LA auditions. I never get tired of this show. I know that the audition process seems to take awhile but I love seeing the talent (but still cringe at the wanna be's). Last night seemed to be all about tap-dancing. Ryan (Evan's - season 5- brother) had an unbelievable audition and was so fun to watch. He also had a dance-off with Bianca (another tapper from last year's audition). Lots of screen time which makes me believe that he will be around for awhile. There were some duds (what was the performance guy Cole doing) but overall the LA auditions were good. I would like more dancing and less backstory but if you don't have a "story" how are you going to get the face time?

My other show last night was of course, Glee. The Push-It performance was absolutely the funniest thing I have seen on television in a long time. I love this show! It is different, funny and poignant (is that the right combination?). I have a secret obsession with the cheerleader, Quinn. Her facial expressions are hilarious and the lines she delivers just blow me away. Maybe it is the sweet smile and the mean girl attitude. Anyway, if you have not watched last nights show, watch. So good.

It looks like Wednesday's are going to be a busy TV night. What did you think of the shows last night?

So You Think You Can Dance Tonight

I am so excited to have So You Think You Can Dance back so soon; although once again the"powers that be" (aka the stupid television people) have put too many good shows back on one night just to screw with my Tivo schedule. Therefore, I am sorry Mr. President but I will be unable to watch your speech tonight because my Tivo will be recording America's Next Top Model, SYTYCD and Glee. I obviously have my priorities in order. Just an FYI, as before I will comment on the auditions for SYTYCD but will not recap anything until we get in to the top 20.

The Week Ahead...

Happy Labor Day everyone. I hope that you all are having a wonderful weekend and tomorrow is a worthwhile day off. I was just programming my Tivo for the week ahead and wanted to make sure that you all had a heads up about a few new shows.

1. So You Think You Can Dance starts Wednesday on Fox. A new season already, I know, but as always I am looking forward to the show and am considering a recap for this one.

2. America's Next Top Model also starts on Wednesday on the CW. The night starts with a 2 hour season premiere and this year Tyra is working with "short" girls (5'7" and below). Still not sure that I will watch but I wanted to mention it.

3. Melrose Place is back and will be starting on Tuesday night on the CW. I am interested to hear how the new revamped show turns out. I think I will have to bow out of this one. I was so distressed by what happened to 90210 that I don't think my heart could take another disappointment.

4. The NFL is back on Thursday night. Just had to give it a mention.

5. I saved the best for last...Glee starts Wednesday night on Fox. I have been waiting all summer for this show to return and finally here it is. I cannot wait to see if I will love the show as much as I loved the Pilot. I will let you know.

So here are a few of the shows that I will be checking out this week. Vampire Diaries also begins along with a few others that I cannot fit into my already busy viewing schedule. Let me know what you are excited about. I cannot wait to hear.

Jeanine Wins So You Think You Can Dance

I had guests this weekend so this is my first moment to sit down and write about the results of SYTYCD on Thursday night. First let me say that I am ecstatic that Jeanine won. I was a big Brandon fan but she was wonderful and her moment was extremely heartfelt. With that said I am also relieved that America did not allow Evan to win. I love the fact that an amazing dancer took home the prize.

Other observations from the night. There were so few dances that I loved (loved) this season. A few stood out as great (Wade Robsen's jazz number, the cancer piece, the addiction piece) but there were not as many this season that made me excited about the tour. I am not sure what happened. All we heard about when this season began was how great the dancers were and how this season was going to blow us away and I am left feeling a little discouraged. Maybe it was the lack of chemistry (and not in all the pieces Jeanine and Jason had major chemistry), or maybe it was the fact that so many of the dancers were ones that we did not get to see through the audition process (Ade). Whatever the reason I did not enjoy this season as much as last.

Now going into fall television, I am excited about SYTYCD being in the fall lineup. Maybe the magic will have returned.

* One note to Fox bigwigs....please, please, please no Paula Abdul. Mary Murphy is enough to deal with.

SYTYCD - Shocking Results

Such a busy weekend but I wanted to weigh in about the early (or not depending on how you look at it) demise of Philip on SYTYCD. Once again I did not take into account America's favorites (Evan and Randi) when placing dancers in the bottom three and was stunned when Melissa and Ade and Philip and Jeanine were picked to "dance for their life". I know that I have been a huge Philip non-fan these past few weeks but I still feel as if he danced the jive with a little life last week. Anyway, the solos were solos (Ade was phenomenal) and Caitlyn (no surprise there) and Philip were booted right before making it into the top 10 and the tour. But wait, we knew Nigel picked favorites and as Philip was undoubtedly one of Nigel's favorites the top 10 tour this year will be the Top 12 tour with Philip and Caitlyn participating. So now we are in the Top 10 and the dancers get to "switch it up" with new partners every week. I can't wait to see how everyone responds to this new level of competition. So long Philip. In a see of contemporary dancers; you will be missed.
